Urban Farmer Required!

Urban Farming and Edible Garde Maintenance Hawthorn Melbourne

UPDATE 13/03/16: We were sent an impressive array of applications that included videos, photos and plenty of interesting (and some very amusing) answers to our three questions. It’s fantastic to see that so many people are enthusiastic, supportive and keen to be a part of what we do.

We had a difficult time selecting the best candidate, but have now finalised the process and appointed someone to the role.

In the future, Leaf Root & Fruit will be looking to employ more like-minded people to help drive positive change across Melbourne. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for further updates.

Leaf, Root & Fruit are currently on the lookout for a like-minded individual, who is ready to join our team in inspiring and supporting our community of growers.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic team player, keen to share the excitement in encouraging the development of sustainable edible gardening in Melbourne. They also can experience what is involved in running a small, local business and develop some skills in this area. No experience is necessary. We’ll teach you everything you need to know –in particular how to grow your own food!

You will begin helping out with garden maintenance, building and installing garden beds and labouring. As your skills grow, so will your level of responsibility (and pay rate). Our aim is to train you up, to become a core business team member and help in driving positive change across Melbourne. You will gain the skills and confidence associated with small business and the ability to nurture the growing wave of Urban Farmers!

This position has it all! It will involve heavy lifting and working with noisy power tools. You will have to deal with stinging nettles, spiders and the occasional dog turd. We work in all weather conditions, including heat, rain and wind. The role is very active and requires someone who is physically fit.

Don’t worry, there are many rewarding aspects to the role too. Watch our client’s gardens grow and change with the seasons. Observe and interact with nature, while learning to become a better Urban Farmer. Marvel at how changes in the garden occur as clockwork right across Melbourne. Step back at the end of a hard working day and look at what you have created. There will be many chances to enjoy the proud, satisfied feeling of “achievement” in this position!

This commences as a casual position. Hours worked will vary from week to week and season to season. Initially, we anticipate you will work 2-3 days per week (but can be more or less days due to demand and seasons in the garden. You may even have a week without work). We can be a bit flexible with which days you work, as long as plenty of notice is given. There will be a chance to increase the number of hours worked as the business continues to grow. Pay rate is to be negotiated based on skills and ability (the award wage is $22 per hour + Super).

If you are interested in joining our team, please send an email to careers@LeafRootFruit.com.au. In the email please outline:

  • Your current employment situation
  • Why you want to work with Leaf, Root & Fruit?
  • What qualities or skills you will bring to the team?

Applicants must be eligible to work in Australia, and be able to pass a Working with Children Check. A current vehicle driver’s licence is also preferred. Leaf, Root & Fruit are a gender inclusive, equal opportunity employer.
