Giant Edible Trellis Project: Week Eleven, The Snow Peas are Ready!

Things are getting very busy for Leaf, Root & Fruit in the lead up to Christmas. In the two weeks since I’ve been out to Mum’s, the Giant Edible Trellis Project reached another milestone… our first snow pea harvest!

The trellis project now has the ability to supply the family with plenty of the leafy greens and snow peas for summer salads.

The beans, on the other hand seem to be sulking. For some reason the earwigs have really targeted them over the snow peas and it has set them back. There aren’t any signs of them running yet.

Most of the cucumber plants got picked off by the sparrows, although there’s a few plants still surviving (but not thriving). The pumpkins, tromboncinos, new guinea beans and watermelon are all looking strong and healthy. In another fortnight they’ll be starting to vine and will be in need of being trained up the trellis.

The hot weather seems to have taken its toll on the strongest Giant Tree Tomato seedling and it’s now a shriveled up mess. I doubt that it’ll survive. The other two seedlings are both looking good.

The companion flower bed is going through a huge growth spurt. Although there’s some invasive grass that has snuck in among the flowers. In a few weeks I think the garden will explode with colourful blooms. The sunflowers look like they are going to end up being huge!
