Duncan Cocking from Leaf, Root & Fruit and Morgan Koegal from 3000acres are teaming up to offer this one-off workshop on edible gardening for renters.

Set in the Leaf, Root & Fruit Classroom in Burwood, we will cover:
• Practicalities of productive gardening as a renter (ie agreement with landlord)
• Ideas for renters to expand your growing space
• Inspiration from some of Melbourne’s best rental gardens
• Prioritising crops as a renter (and focusing on key skill building)
• Site analysis and layout
• How to turn a lawn into a productive veggie patch (and then return it back to lawn again)
• Successful container gardening
• Using pallets to construct garden beds
• Growing fruit trees and berries
• Stock animals in rentals properties (chooks, quails, bees)
• Relocation of gardens and plants when the tenancy ends

The class will involve a combination of theory in a classroom setting, demonstrations and practical activities including:
• Analyzing an outdoor space
• Deconstruction of a pallet to reclaim the timber
• Planting an Edible Forest Garden in a pot

By the end of the class you will have the skills and confidence to:
• Negotiate with your landlord
• Plan your productive spaces
• Grow more of your own food in your rental property
• Get your bond back at the termination of your rental agreement

• Water bottle
• Closed toed, practical shoes
• Clothes appropriate to the weather on the day. (Our warehouse can be very hot in summer and very cold in winter!)
